Companies desire to connect with workers who work for them remotely, by monitoring them and refusing to give them the flexibility they need, is ruining their efforts to get the best out of their employees.

While Nick Hedderman, head of the modern working group at Microsoft UK, warned organisations against such measures, he recommended companies rethink the way work is done, rather than using technology to offer the office experience elsewhere.

Hedderman recommended that companies pursue a strategy of disrupting employees rather than holding regular meetings. In his remark, “This is a way of empowering people to get the work done on their own terms when it makes sense for them.”

He explained that this strategy will help to create teamwork among employees, which will lead to an improvement in performance without forcing workers to attend a meeting. He also suggested silent meetings for companies. He also advises organizations to use Viva Insights, and in particular Viva Learning, to get a better understanding of how to take newcomers on board.
