Microsoft has updated its AI-powered Bing search engine. The updates include capability for video and conversation history, as well as the removal of the prior waiting list. Making restaurant reservations, producing picture and video responses, and recording and exporting persistent chat history and plug-ins are all new features in the update.
The move is part of a larger trend of incorporating generative AI into tech goods, with a race to create such capabilities underway. The new capabilities will include the option to save AI discussions in a chat history, as well as multimedia results that were previously displayed in search.
Microsoft is also making Bing available to third-party developers, allowing the creation and use of plug-ins. This will rely on third-party providers to provide capabilities such as scheduling a table at a restaurant and producing visual responses to difficult human-curated data-based queries.
Bing’s AI-powered conversation was previously text-only, but it has now been expanded to accommodate audiovisual material. The AI-powered Bing features are transitioning from a limited preview to a “preview” that is now available to everyone. Microsoft is also allowing developers and other third parties to build on top of Bing.
