One Fastly Customer Triggered The Internet Blackout

In a recent update, cloud computing company Fastly revealed that the internet blackout, which affected the operation of many high-profile websites, took place after a customer changed his settings and discovered a bug in a software update issued to customers in mid-May.

As a result, according to the company it caused, “85% of our network to return errors.”

While apologizing for the power outage, Nick Rockwell, senior engineer at Fastly, said: “This outage was broad and severe – and we’re truly sorry for the impact to our customers and everyone who relies on them.
