Russia’s Navalny Criticises Apple, Google Over App Removal

Jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has called Google and Apple’s decision to remove the anti-government tactical voting app from their stores before the incoming elections an act of “cowardice”.

He wrote on his social media accounts: “The giants Apple @Apple and Google @Google have complied with the Kremlin’s demands and removed our app from their stores. My beloved YouTube has deleted our video, and the Telegram messenger has blocked our bot. I know that most of those who work at Google, Apple, etc. are honest and good people. I urge them not to put up with the cowardice of their bosses.”

According to reports, the tactical voting app, created by Navalny’s allies, makes detailed recommendations on who to vote for as they try to stop President Putin’s United Russia party. A source close to Navalny claimed that Google decided to remove the app after it was told local staffs would risk jail time.
