To make the United States more competitive with Chinese technology, the Senate on Tuesday voted for a comprehensive package of legislation that includes provisions to strengthen technology and research in the U.S.

The bill allows for $190 billion towards technology and research.

The bill also separately authorizes $54 billion in spending to boost the country’s semiconductor and telecommunications equipment production and research, with $2 billion dedicated to chips used by automakers that have experienced massive shortages and production cuts.

Other China-related provisions embedded in the law include banning the downloading of social media app TikTok on government devices and blocking the purchase of drones made and sold by companies backed by the Chinese government.
