Twitter’s engineering head, Foad Dabiri, has announced his departure from the firm, barely one day after the start of Ron DeSantis’ US presidential campaign on Twitter was marred by technical difficulties.
Dabiri remarked in a tweet, “After almost four incredible years at Twitter, I decided to leave the nest yesterday.” While acknowledging the difficulties faced by Elon Musk’s October acquisition of Twitter and the resulting “outside noise,” Dabiri expressed thanks for the learning experience.
The malfunctioning of a Twitter live stream showcasing DeSantis’ entry into the 2024 White House race caused a 20-minute delay. Although, Elon Musk, attributed the technical problems to “server strain” and stated that the servers had been “melting,” as reported by Bloomberg, it is unclear if Dabiri was asked to resign by Musk.
DeSantis’ team swiftly responded by proclaiming that the announcement had “broken the internet with so much excitement” and shared a link to the campaign website. According to DeSantis’ press secretary, Bryan Griffin, the online event managed to raise $1 million in just one hour.
Dabiri declined to provide specific reasons for his departure. However, in a tweet, he noted that he had experienced two distinct eras at Twitter, before and after the acquisition by the multi-billionaire last year. He also described the transition into Twitter’s “2.0” as “massive and rapid.”
