Twitter’s rebrand to X hurts download numbers

Twitter’s rebrand to X has hurt the app’s download numbers, according to an analysis by Eric Seufert.

Seufert wrote on Threads, saying he found that Twitter’s ranking in the App Store’s top free downloads chart has fallen from #2 to #51 since the rebrand. On the Google Play Store, Twitter’s ranking has fallen from #6 to #66.

Seufert believes that the rebrand is confusing users, who are not aware that Twitter has been renamed to X. When users search for “Twitter” on the app stores, they are more likely to see paid ads from competitors than the actual Twitter app.

The rebrand has also been met with criticism from users, who have complained that the new name and logo are confusing and unmemorable.

Elon Musk since acquiring Twitter has made several changes to the app. The changes and other factors has led to a decline in ads patronage, a major concern for the billionaire.
