{"id":11268,"date":"2021-08-26T10:21:58","date_gmt":"2021-08-26T14:21:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.technewsday.com\/?p=11268"},"modified":"2021-08-27T08:57:48","modified_gmt":"2021-08-27T12:57:48","slug":"gm-recalls-chevrolet-bolt-after-fires-in-models","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/technewsday.com\/staging\/gm-recalls-chevrolet-bolt-after-fires-in-models\/","title":{"rendered":"GM Recalls Chevrolet Bolt After Fires In Models"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>General Motors recently announced it is recalling all of its Chevrolet Bolt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recalls also include the new electric utility vehicle model, which debuted this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After a series of fires affected Bolt models, the company attributed the problem to two simultaneous defects in the cars\u2019 LG Chem batteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to General Motors, the problem was caused by a cracked anode tab and a folded separator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Greg Less, Technical Director of the Battery Lab at the University of Michigan, commented on GM&#8217;s recent decision: &#8221; It wouldn&#8217;t surprise me if both defects are caused by the same thing. I would imagine that the separator must be folded at the edge near where the anode tab is at. What I&#8217;m guessing is that at some point during the handling of the cell, before it&#8217;s fully packaged, some part of the robot machine is catching.
