{"id":19233,"date":"2022-02-15T11:55:29","date_gmt":"2022-02-15T16:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.technewsday.com\/?p=19233"},"modified":"2022-02-16T10:30:32","modified_gmt":"2022-02-16T15:30:32","slug":"texas-ag-sues-meta-for-violating-texas-privacy-laws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/technewsday.com\/staging\/texas-ag-sues-meta-for-violating-texas-privacy-laws\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas AG Sues Meta For Violating Texas Privacy Laws"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing Meta for violating privacy and consumer protection laws in Texas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The laws were violated when Meta used the biometric data of millions of Texans without their consent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Paxon, Meta violated the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act (CUBI) and the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act (DTPA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Paxon, therefore, demands that Meta pay $25,000 civil penalties for each violation of the CUBI and $10,000 civil penalties for each violation of the DTPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Facebook has, for over a decade, built an Artificial Intelligence empire on the backs of Texans by deceiving them while capturing their most intimate data, thereby putting their well-being, safety, and security at risk.
