{"id":19441,"date":"2022-02-22T11:07:02","date_gmt":"2022-02-22T16:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.technewsday.com\/?p=19441"},"modified":"2022-02-23T11:13:06","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T16:13:06","slug":"gm-petitions-regulators-to-deploy-self-driving-cars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/technewsday.com\/staging\/gm-petitions-regulators-to-deploy-self-driving-cars\/","title":{"rendered":"GM Petitions Regulators To Deploy Self-Driving Cars"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>General Motors (GM) and its self-driving car technology unit Cruise has sought approval from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to allow the operation of vehicles that do not require human control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cruise posted in a blog post prompting regulators to allow a few vehicles to operate temporarily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Should the petition be considered and accepted, the Cruise Origin, a model of car created without human control, will be allowed to travel and move on various routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cruise said the petition shows that Cruise and GM are willing to build and deploy the newest car model in America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cruise also assured everyone of plans to expand mobility options for people who have long-faced traditional barriers to reliable transportation such as seniors and the blind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cruise Origin was built due to a partnership between GM and Cruise investor Honda Motor.
