Twitter has announced plans to expand Birdwatch, a fact-checking crowdsourcing program.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
The Birdwatch project allows users to add context to misleading tweets. Twitter announced that a “small and randomized” group of users in the US will see the notes created by members of its Birdwatch pilot program.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
The notes will appear “directly on some tweets,” allowing new participants to rate the notes and send feedback on their effectiveness to the Birdwatch program.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Twitter’s Birdwatch program is believed to be one of several plans to effectively limit the spread of misinformation.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Notes that appear to users mean the expanded program has been rated as “helpful” by “enough Birdwatch contributors from different perspectives.”<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Twitter added that it creates perspective profiles for all participants in the program. To this end, the company is compiling how the program’s participants have rated notes in the past.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
Since its launch about a year ago, Twitter’s Birdwatch program has about 10,000 contributors.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
