Ukraine has started using Clearview AI\u2019s facial recognition technology according to the company’s CEO.<\/p>\n
With access to more than 2 billion images from the Russian social media service VKontakte, Clearview’s database offers a lot.<\/p>\n
This includes better identification of the dead, reuniting refugees separated from their families, identifying Russian operatives, and helping the government debunk fake social media posts related to war.<\/p>\n
The technology is now available to Ukraine’s defense ministry. However, other parts of Ukraine’s government will deploy the technology in the coming days.<\/p>\n
Clearview Chief Executive Hoan Ton-That noted that the technology should not be used as the only source of identification.<\/p>\n
Ton-That also stated that he disapproves of the technology being used to violate the Geneva Conventions. The Geneva Conventions create legal standards for humanitarian treatment during the war.<\/p>\n
Users in Ukraine are currently undergoing training on how to use the technology.<\/p>\n
