{"id":23746,"date":"2022-06-08T04:30:12","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T08:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.technewsday.com\/?p=23746"},"modified":"2022-06-08T04:30:12","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T08:30:12","slug":"first-state-projects-from-covid-broadband-fund-approved-by-u-s-treasury","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/technewsday.com\/staging\/first-state-projects-from-covid-broadband-fund-approved-by-u-s-treasury\/","title":{"rendered":"First State Projects From COVID Broadband Fund Approved By U.S. Treasury"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-ar-index=\"0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The U.S. Treasury recently released the first state awards from a $10 billion COVID-19 aid program intended to boost broadband internet access in underserved areas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-ar-index=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$583 million worth of projects were announced for the states of Virginia, West Virginia, Louisiana and New Hampshire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-ar-index=\"4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund, a low-key provision of President Joe Biden&#8217;s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act, provides funding for broadband infrastructure and other projects related to work, education and healthcare monitoring.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-ar-index=\"6\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;In the next three years there should not be any excuse while virtually every home in America, north of 98 per cent, shouldn&#8217;t have full high-speed broadband connectivity at an affordable rate,&#8221; said Democratic Senator Mark Warner in a press conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p data-ar-index=\"8\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Virginia will get $219.8 million to expand &#8220;last mile&#8221; broadband access to 76,873 locations while West Virginia will receive $136.3 million to connect 20,000 locations.
