Twitter has declined a request to send its Slack messages about how it moderates content about the attack on the Capitol to the House committee, according to a new Rolling Stone report.<\/p>\n
According to the Rolling Stone report, Twitter is invoking First Amendment privilege in response to the request.<\/p>\n
The committee’s request was necessary because they believe the chat transcripts will help provide a detailed\u00a0picture of how pro-Trump extremism contributed to the attack on Capitol Hill.<\/p>\n
The committee has achieved little in collecting data to help it analyze the role of social media companies in the January 6 attack on the Capitol.<\/p>\n
However, Twitter said it had provided the committee with the necessary information.<\/p>\n
“Since last year, we have had an ongoing, productive engagement with the Select Committee, and have provided appropriate, relevant information to contribute to this important investigation,” Twitter said in a statement to Rolling Stone.<\/p>\n
The company also said it was “committed to continuing this work with the Select Committee” and was taking a “principled approach to responding to requests for information from governments.”<\/p>\n
