Apple and Meta’s mixed reality headsets will offer users a unique technology known as the passthrough mixed reality tech.<\/p>\n
In passthrough AR, powerful cameras on the outside of a VR headset record video from the outside world and send it to two or more displays, one in front of the user.<\/p>\n
Pending the time optical transparent displays will be ready, passthrough approach will be filled in as the preferred short-term option.<\/p>\n
Apple has yet to confirm plans for a mixed-reality headset. Reports stated that Apple’s headset will support passthrough video and offer games and other applications. The device will cost thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n
According to reports from Bloomberg and The Information, Apple is developing a mixed reality headset that resembles ski goggles. Reportedly, the device features a powerful chip similar to the one that powers Apple’s MacBook, and higher resolution displays than what is currently available.<\/p>\n
Meta’s Project Cambria, which is due to be launched later this year will support color passthrough. The device also looks like ski goggles. It will contain pancake optics, a kind of lens that does not need to be calibrated as finely as other VR lenses.<\/p>\n
Meta said in May that the price for Cambria would be “significantly higher” than $800.<\/p>\n
