Reddit has given a deadline to the biggest subreddits that remain private, demanding that they provide a reopening plan or face consequences, stating that communities cannot remain closed.<\/p>\n
According to messages viewed by The Verge from Reddit’s ModCodeofConduct account, Reddit did reference Rule 4 of its Moderator Code of Conduct, which requires moderators to be active in their groups. It went on to say that if the subreddits don’t comply, they “will not remain private beyond the time frame we’ve allowed for confirmation of plans here.” Reddit also threatened to replace moderators who do not act in the best interests of their community.<\/p>\n
The community cannot stay closed to its millions of members after the deadline, according to ModCodeofConduct. It then advised that future moderating proposals be addressed in a restricted setting while giving them time to be considered. Reddit then hinted that this might be the final warning before acting against moderators who keep their subreddits locked.<\/p>\n
Some of the biggest subreddits that were involved in the initial API protest have reopened in restricted mode, while others are still in dark mode.<\/p>\n
