Their Dashboard and several associated APIs were reported to be down for a wide range of customers.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thankfully the disruption didn\u2019t impact their Content Delivery Network or security features, which faced an outage just last week. On October 30, an unsuccessful update caused a 37-minute service interruption.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The current issue, while less severe, persisted for many hours.\u00a0 The primary cause is identified as a data center power failure <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and challenges in service \/switch-over.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Cloudflare stated that they are actively addressing the situation, but noted that the resolution might be prolonged due to the nature of the problem.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sources include: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zdnet.com\/home-and-office\/networking\/cloudflare-is-struggling-with-another-outage-heres-what-to-know\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ZDNET<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s some more on a story we did yesterday on the struggle companies are having pricing their AI services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Microsoft has updated its terms for online services, signaling that &#8220;excessive<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8221; users of its generative AI services might find their access limited. This change, highlighted on November 1, doesn&#8217;t clearly define what &#8220;excessive use&#8221; entails or the duration of any &#8220;temporary&#8221; restrictions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The move hints at potential bottlenecks in Microsoft&#8217;s AI infrastructure that could affect performance<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It&#8217;s worth noting that Microsoft recently disclosed that scaling<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> its cloud-based AI would be a costly endeavour.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On October 24, they reported Q1 2024 capital expenditures of $11.2 billion, partly used for scaling AI infrastructure.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Limiting high-frequency users could be a cost-saving strategy, especially since Microsoft&#8217;s GitHub AI Copilot reportedly operates at a loss, but it is also reflective of the challenges that companies are facing as they try to effectively price their AI product offerings.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sources include: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2023\/11\/02\/microsoft_generative_ai_throttling\/?td=rt-3a\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Register<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A recent survey by ISC2 has highlighted a concerning trend in the cybersecurity industry: a sharp rise in professionals reporting low &#8220;happiness ratings.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Out of close to 15,000 global infosec workers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> surveyed, almost 37 per cent indicated low levels of workplace happiness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While 70 per cent of respondents expressed satisfaction with their jobs, the primary issues causing distress seem to be organizational. Factors such as departmental cutbacks, potential layoffs, and inadequate managerial support are <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">contributing to the decline in overall<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> happiness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ISC2 emphasized the importance of a positive workplace culture, noting that satisfied workers are more motivated<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and less prone to errors. The complaint alleges that Amazon suppressed lower-priced listings from other retailers and imposed hefty fees on sellers, leading to inflated product prices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Project Nessie, revealed in the complaint, was designed to hike Amazon product prices and observe if competitors would match them. If not, prices would revert to normal.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Although Amazon ceased using Nessie in 2019, the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FTC claims the<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> company has contemplated its reactivation. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amazon&#8217;s spokesperson, Tim Doyle, defended Nessie, stating it aimed to prevent<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> unsustainable low prices due to price matching.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sources include: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2023\/11\/2\/23943724\/amazon-project-nessie-algorithm-ftc-antitrust-case\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Verge<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Microsoft&#8217;s homepage, MSN.com, a major news portal, has been under scrutiny for amplifying false and bizarre news stories.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This shift in content quality is attributed to Microsoft&#8217;s increased reliance on automation and artificial intelligence over human editors.
