{"id":5339,"date":"2021-05-13T09:38:31","date_gmt":"2021-05-13T13:38:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.technewsday.com\/?p=5339"},"modified":"2021-08-03T11:16:09","modified_gmt":"2021-08-03T15:16:09","slug":"eu-courts-side-with-amazon-in-luxembourg-tax-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/technewsday.com\/staging\/eu-courts-side-with-amazon-in-luxembourg-tax-case\/","title":{"rendered":"EU Courts Side With Amazon In Luxembourg Tax Case"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>European courts have ruled out an order by the European Commission requiring Amazon to pay \u20ac250 million in back taxes to Luxembourg for so-called &#8220;illegal state aid.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The case started after the European Commission concluded that Luxembourg had given undue tax advantages of around \u20ac250 million ($303 million) to Amazon following an investigation into Amazon&#8217;s tax arrangement in Luxembourg in 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its conclusion on the case, the General Court found that &#8220;The Commission did not prove to the requisite legal standard that there was an undue reduction of the tax burden of a European subsidiary of the Amazon group.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an email to NPR, Amazon said it welcomed the court&#8217;s ruling, &#8220;which is in line with our long-standing position that we followed all applicable laws and that Amazon received no special treatment.
