BlackBerry has teamed up with the University of Windsor to develop a new tool that will help address the issue of flood risk and clean water monitoring for Indigenous communities in Canada and flood victims worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project, which runs on BlackBerry’s critical event management platform AtHoc, has been tested in Canada and, according to BlackBerry, “provides autonomous year-round monitoring and an intelligent early warning system, collecting and processing large amounts of sensor data, and generating alerts based on the data insights.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BlackBerry said in a statement that Indigenous peoples across Canada are disproportionately affected by flooding and a lack of clean water, prompting the two companies to join forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Neelam Sandhu, senior vice president at BlackBerry, said tools like theirs would be crucial as the impacts of climate change continue to worsen each year.<\/p>\n\n\n
