Zoom orders staff back to office

Zoom has ordered staff back to the office. The company said it believes a “structured hybrid approach” is most effective and people living within 50 miles (80km) of an office should work in person at least twice a week.

According to Zoom, it is advocating for a “structured hybrid approach,” deeming it the most efficacious mode of operation. This new policy, slated for rollout in August and September across various countries, retains the commitment to sourcing top talent regardless of geographical location. With approximately 8,400 employees as of January, over half based in the US, Zoom’s evolving approach emphasizes adaptability. The transition aims to leverage their proprietary technologies, foster innovation, and maintain global client support.

This is the latest in a string of major companies that have rowed back on flexible working policies in recent months. Amazon, Disney, and Goldman Sachs are among the other firms that have announced plans to bring employees back to the office more often.

The decision by Zoom is likely to be met with mixed reactions from its employees. Some may be happy to return to the office, while others may be disappointed to lose the flexibility of working from home.
