A bipartisan group of U.S. attorneys general sent a letter to lawmakers on Monday supporting a series of bills aimed at tightening antitrust laws for big tech companies like Facebook and Google.
Addressed to Senate and House leaders, the letter explicitly expressed support for six bills that passed the House Judiciary Committee in June, four of which are directly aimed at curtailing the powers of Big Tech’s platforms, while two others are aimed at empowering enforcers.
A specific measure, if it becomes law, would ensure that antitrust cases brought by state attorneys general remain with the court of their choice – a move that plaintiffs generally prefer.
The House of Representatives has not yet voted on the measures, and some of them have not yet passed the Senate.
The state attorneys general have filed three pending antitrust cases against Google, and another against Facebook, which has been dismissed, and have also filed lawsuits alleging price collusion in the generic drug industry.
