Tesco Prepares To Open London Checkout-Free Store

October 19, 2021

Tesco, Britain’s biggest retailer, is opening its first cashless store in central London today, Tuesday, allowing customers to shop and pay without having to scan a product or go to the checkout.

Tesco’s move mirrors attempts by rivals such as Amazon, Aldi and Morrisons.

The launch of “GetGo” for the Tesco Express store in High Holborn follows a successful trial in a staff shop on the Tesco headquarters campus in Welwyn Garden City, north London, which has been in place since 2019.

The High Holborn branch has been cashless since it opened in 2018.
