Tesla has restated its commitment to data security in a Weibo post in an attempt to calm worries raised by the ban on its vehicles at Yueyang airport.
Chinese officials questioned Tesla about the security of the data collected by its cars’ cameras. They then went on to bar Tesla from parking its vehicles in the lot of the Yueyang airport in Hunan province.
In response to the ban, Tesla has published a post on Weibo, China’s Twitter-like platform, reiterating that its cars’ cameras only store video and audio locally on an offline USB drive kept within the car. The company also said that Tesla staff cannot access this data remotely.
Tesla has also said that it asks users to agree to a policy that specifies they are individually responsible for complying with local laws and regulations involving cameras.
Apple and Microsoft, have also been asked to provide more information about how they collect and use data in China.
