Top Priorities for CIOs To Move Into New Technology World

October 19, 2021

Gartner analysts on Monday listed flexible work, partnerships, and a willingness to let go of the “way we’ve always done it,” as some of the top priorities for CIOs and technology leaders to actively realize their true potential in a growing technology world.

According to Mbula Schoen, Senior Research Director of the CIO Leadership, Culture, and People Research Team, Hung LeHong, Distinguished Research Vice President, and Daryl Plummer, Distinguished Analysts and Gartner fellow CIOs will need to get creative to address the prevailing technology challenges.

To answer questions about how leaders need to change their thinking about where and when they work, Schoen outlined three approaches that help technology leaders rethink where, when, and how they work: building a more human-centric workforce than the 9-5; engaging business technologists, formerly known as shadow IT, and building an internal talent market that benefits managers and workers.

There is also a need for key partnerships which LeHong claims are vital for developing and changing the traditional business approach to business.

For Plummer, companies need to find freedom from these three traditional business ideas including historical insights, legacy practices, and bias.
