Trump Returns To Social Media With Truth Social

February 22, 2022

Former U.S. President Donald Trump is back online with the launch of his social media platform Truth Social.

The platform is now available in the U.S. Apple App Store, albeit in a limited form. Some early users have expressed difficulties in registering an account.

The platform was developed by Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG). The application had previously been made available to about 500 beta testers.

According to commenters, Truth Social bore some similarities to Twitter, including buttons similar to Twitter’s replies, retweets and “like” functions.

The move to develop a social media platform came after Donald Trump was removed from several social media platforms in January following the attack on the Capitol.

Despite his social media platform, Trump may continue to face the difficulty of using many social media platforms.

“There simply is no way to avoid big tech. Even if he has his own platform, if he’s violating their terms of service, they could basically push his app out of their app store, which would make it very difficult for him to build an audience,” said Darrell West, senior technology innovation fellow at the Brookings Institution think tank.
