Twitter Creates Team To Watch Content On Capitol Riot Anniversary

January 6, 2022

Twitter is set to mark the first anniversary of the Capitol riot by assembling a team of experts to address the problem of harmful content. Twitter stated that the assembled team consists of members across its site integrity and trust and safety teams.

Their duty will be specific to the anniversary of the attack that took place at the Capitol on January 6, 2022, and will include watching for risks such as tweets and accounts that incite violence.

“Our approach both before and after January 6 has been to take strong enforcement action against accounts and Tweets that incite violence or have the potential to lead to offline harm,” a Twitter spokesperson said.

For Twitter, the decision is intended to complement its efforts to monitor the platform around major global events.

The company will continue to monitor trending topics and search results for harmful content. This step will consolidate the efforts made to rid the platform of harmful content.

Among the efforts, Twitter has made over the years include blocking numerous accounts found guilty of violating its policies against the coordinated harmful activity.
