Twitter has removed the giant X logo that was placed on top of its San Francisco headquarters. The logo had been erected without a permit and received complaints from residents living near the building.
The logo was a temporary measure while Twitter worked on a new, permanent logo. However, the company decided to remove it after receiving safety complaints.
The city’s complaint alleges that Twitter denied inspectors access to the roof, dismissing the X logo as a mere “temporary lighted sign for an event.” However, Patrick Hannan, the communications director for the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection and City Planning, confirmed that a notice of violation was issued to the building’s owner. Over the weekend, the department received 24 complaints about the unpermitted structure, expressing concerns about its safety and illumination.
Hannan asserted that a permit could be secured after the structure’s removal, citing safety reasons. The department intends to fine the building’s owner for the installation and removal of the structure, as well as cover inspection and investigation costs.
Twitter has not yet said what it will do with the X logo. However, the company has said that it is working on a new, permanent logo.
