On Tuesday, the White House announced that the United States will work with allies such as Canada, Finland, Chile, Australia and others to secure the minerals needed for electric vehicles.

The strategy includes new financing aimed at expanding international investment in electric vehicle metal projects, as well as new efforts to increase supply by recycling batteries through the U.S. Development Finance Corporation.

Although securing enough copper, lithium, and other raw materials have been a major obstacle to President Biden’s aggressive plans to roll out electric vehicles, the administration will launch a working group to find out where minerals used in electric vehicle batteries and other technologies can be produced and processed domestically.
