Unity Game Engine Announces Microsoft’s Azure As Official Cloud Partner

August 9, 2022

Microsoft’s Azure is the new official cloud partner of the Unity game engine. The partnership gives Unity the necessary opportunity to expand into areas outside the game area.

Unity hinted at new plans to turn the Unity engine into a “platform-agnostic, cloud-native solution that meets the wide-ranging needs of all developers, from enterprise through citizen creators.”

To realize its new plan, Unity will leverage Azure’s cloud-based systems to provide real-time 3D (RT3D) simulation tools to develop digital twins of real-world places and objects that will then be used for a variety of training and simulation applications.

From now on, developers who develop games and non-gaming experiences within the Unity engine will be able to use their creations more smoothly and easily on Windows and Xbox devices.

To actualize quicker and faster transition, Unity and Microsoft will “leverage the latest platform innovations from silicon to the cloud and simplify the publishing experience.”

It is not yet known when the first collaborative publishing tools or services will be available.
