Why Enterprises Should Install Latest MacOS Software

April 28, 2021

Companies are advised to install Apple’s latest MacOS Big Sur 11.3 to protect their Macs against a serious software vulnerability that could compromise data.

Hackers are able to exploit vulnerabilities within the macOS system via compromised websites, poisoned search engine results, where criminals create websites with content tailored to show up in search results for frequent queries, and fake app installers or updates.

The vulnerability allows unapproved software to run on Macs and allows attackers to access personal data. None of the Mac’s defense tools such as Gatekeeper, Notarization, or File Quarantine can prevent this unless they are upgraded to macOS 11.3.

Hackers have been exploiting the above vulnerability since January. Apple has tried to fix the situation with this update. Hackers who try to install the malware will not be able to do so after the update and will be asked to delete the installer.
