X rolls out voice and video calling for all users

October 27, 2023

X, formerly known as Twitter, is rolling out a new voice and video calling feature to all users. The feature is currently only available on iOS devices, but is expected to arrive on Android soon.

Only premium subscribers will be able to initiate calls, but anyone can receive calls from premium subscribers and people in their address book. If you don’t want to receive calls, you can disable the feature in the direct messages settings.

To use the voice and video calling feature, simply start a direct message with the person you want to call and tap the phone or video icon in the top-right corner. During a call, you will have access to a variety of controls, including mute, speaker, and camera switching.

To turn off the voice and video calling, users can simply go to direct messages, tap the settings cog in the top-right corner. Then tap “Enable audio and video calling” until the toggle is turned off. Users can also choose who can call you in the same settings menu.
