YouTube Ousts Facebook As Platform Of Choice For Teens

According to a Pew Research Centre survey, YouTube is now the most popular platform among teens.

The survey results, which differ from the 2015 edition, show that 95% of the teens surveyed use YouTube, and 19% admitted to being on the platform “almost constantly.”

TikTok came in second place with 67% and 16% admitted to being “almost constantly” on the app. Instagram came third with 62% of teens saying they use it and 10% saying they scroll through pictures and videos almost all the time.

Snapchat saw an increase in usage among young people from 41% in 2015 to 59%. Twitter and Tumblr both fell by 10% and 9% respectively. Twitch (20%), WhatsApp (17%), and Reddit (14%) were not included in the survey seven years ago.

54% of teens surveyed said they would find it hard to give up social media and 36% claimed they spend too much time on it. Daily internet user also rose from 92% in 2015 to 97%.

A similar survey in 2015 found that 71% of teens used Facebook at the time, compared to 33% today, and 2% of respondents said they use it “almost constantly.”
