Zoom announces collaboration with OpenAI

March 28, 2023

Zoom has announced plans to expand its AI-powered smart companion, Zoom IQ, and work with OpenAI to strengthen its approach to artificial intelligence.

Zoom will be able to offer a federated AI approach by combining its in-house AI models with those developed by leading AI firms such as OpenAI, as well as select customers’ own models, thanks to the new approach. This will allow Zoom to make “generative AI a driving force in making our customers’ organizations more productive,” according to Smita Hashim, chief product officer at Zoom.

Zoom IQ is a next-generation smart companion designed to empower collaboration and unlock people’s potential by summarizing chat threads, organizing ideas, drafting content for chats, emails, and whiteboard sessions, creating meeting agendas, and more. Its capabilities will help streamline workflows and provide users with the information they need to get their work done more efficiently. For example, Zoom IQ can summarize missed meetings in real-time, generate whiteboard sessions based on text prompts, summarize meeting recaps, and suggest actions for owners to take on.

In addition to the new partnership with OpenAI, Zoom also announced that it would add additional generative AI capabilities to Zoom IQ. The collaboration will enable Zoom to bolster its AI capabilities and expand its suite of features to enhance the overall experience for its users.
