December 17, 2021

Zoom has joined the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT), a counterterrorism organization founded by leading U.S. technology companies.

In a statement released to the public, Josh Parecki, Zoom’s associate general counsel for trust and safety, said, “It is our responsibility to support our users and protect them against online threats. By collaborating with other leaders across the industry, sharing key learnings, and advancing research, we aspire to make the digital world a safer place for all.”

GIFCT was founded in 2017 by leading US technology companies, including Meta, formerly known as Facebook and Microsoft.

The aim of the organization is to provide member companies with the information they need to fight terrorism and violent extremism on their platforms.

Currently, the organization has 18 top tech companies. GIFCT Executive Director Nicholas Rasmussen expressed his joy and welcomed Zoom.

This goal according to him, “requires we work with a diverse range of companies …to develop cross-platform solutions that render terrorists and violent extremists ineffective across the internet.”
