Zoom unveils new AI-powered features

March 29, 2023

Zoom is expanding its offerings to compete with Google, Microsoft, Slack, Calendly, and Otter by introducing new AI-powered features under the Zoom IQ assistant umbrella. Meeting summaries, email responses, whiteboard generation, video “Huddles,” and a meeting scheduler are all possible.

Zoom hopes that its new offerings will persuade users to delegate more of their work to its tools. To accomplish this, the company is making its email and calendar clients available to everyone.

Zoom started testing these tools last year when it partnered with OpenAI for AI features to expand beyond meetings. However, it did not specify whether the collaboration is limited to API usage or extends beyond that. Paid users receive end-to-end encryption and custom domains in addition to hosted email and calendar services.

The Zoom IQ assistant now provides AI-powered summaries and “ask further questions” during meetings, even if a user joins in the middle. The bot will post a summary of the meeting to Zoom’s team chat feature after the meeting. Zoom IQ, which assist users in creating meeting agendas, chats, emails, and whiteboard sessions, has promised a generative future.

The assistant can also summarize team chat threads. Zoom IQ could previously automatically record highlights, divide meetings into chapters, and list action items. Zoom IQ for Sales, which provides insights from video calls to sales teams, was launched last year.

The company is inviting users to test these features starting next month, with plans to expand the rollout later.
