Mark Zuckerberg unveiled Meta’s newest virtual reality headset, the Quest Pro, a sleek device that can display text and fine details in VR, making it easy to read.
It can also track eyes and facial features, creating a sense of connectedness with other people in virtual space. It can also be used as a mixed reality headset that displays a colored view of the world around it while interacting with digital objects.
It features thinner lenses, a curved battery around the back of the head strap, and self-tracking controllers. The headset also allows users to see their actual surroundings around the screen’s periphery.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also explained that it will support the office platform Windows 365 as Meta tries to position Mixed and Virtual Reality as both a work tool and a form of entertainment.
According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, mixed reality is the next big step for VR, as Meta is betting its future on creating a Metaverse, a virtual world where people can live their daily lives as avatars as well as explore virtual fantasy worlds.
The cost is $1,499 (£1,499), which is nearly four times the cost of Meta’s current headset, the Quest 2, which starts at $399. This is most likely because it is aimed more at architects and designers with deep enough pockets to pay for the headset, as well as some creative and die-hard VR users.
