Apple recently wrapped up its “California Streaming” event and launched several new products. Here’s a recap:
ONE: Apple’s new iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini look very similar to the iPhone 12, but have a smaller notch and diagonal camera array. Both feature a new A15 Bionic chip and an improved dual-camera system on the back. Apple also promises longer battery life than the iPhone 12.
The iPhone 13 Mini starts at $729, and the iPhone 13 starts at $829, with both devices priced at carrier discounts.
TWO: The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max look very similar to their predecessors, with a stainless steel band on the sides and a matte finish on the back. The most important upgrade is the screen: they support Apple’s adaptive refresh rate technology ProMotion, which peaks at 120 Hz. They also feature a brand new camera system and an A15 Bionic chip.
The iPhone 13 Pro starts at $999 and the Pro Max starts at $1,099, both with a new 1TB storage option.
THREE: Two new camera features on the iPhone 13 are Cinematic Mode, which blurs the background in portrait mode, and what Apple calls Photographic Style, which allows users to select different styles before taking a photo to give it a unique look.
FOUR: The Apple Watch Series 7 now comes in two larger screen sizes – 41 mm and 45 mm – with a slightly modified design. Some user interface elements have been revised to better reflect the larger screen, including the display of a full keyboard. The new model starts at $399 and will be available in the fall.
FIVE: Apple is also updating Fitness Plus, its workout service. Apple is adding pilates workouts, guided meditations and winter-inspired workouts to the service this September.
SIX: Apple’s new iPad Mini now has an all-new design identical to the iPad Air, which launched in 2020. The all-new Mini features an 8.3-inch screen, a Touch ID sensor on the power button, a USB-C port, a 12MP ultra-wide front camera that enables Apple’s Center Stage technology, and an option for 5G connectivity.
SEVEN: Apple is also launching a new ninth-generation iPad equipped with an A13 Bionic chip. It also features a 12MP ultra-wide front camera that supports Center Stage. The new iPad costs $329 with 64GB.
EIGHT: The latest major software updates for Apple’s phones and tablets is iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and watchOS 8. It will be available on September 20.
