Salesforce adds more gender options to its software

February 15, 2023

Salesforce is expanding its gender options in order to become more inclusive with new Gender Identity and Pronoun Data Options.

The move is intended to promote workplace inclusivity and diversity. The new gender identity and pronoun data options, which are now available on the Salesforce platform, allow users to select from gender options other than the traditional male and female categories.

Salesforce now offers ten gender identity options, including non-binary, genderqueer, two-spirit, and other gender identities. Users can also now enter their preferred pronouns into their user profiles, including they/them, he/him, and she/her. The changes eliminate the need for administrators to create custom fields and pave the way for more standard data reporting across a broader range of gender identities.

The company believes that this move will contribute to the development of a more inclusive workplace culture, which will lead to increased employee engagement and productivity. “At the end of the day, this is about more than inclusive language,” Salesforce chief ethical and humane use officer Paula Goldman said in a statement to Axios. “It’s about giving businesses the tools to better understand and serve their diverse customer base.”

Salesforce is also providing resources to its customers to assist them in creating more inclusive workplaces. This includes a best practice guide for collecting and using gender identity and pronoun data, as well as a toolkit for promoting LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion.
