Humane launches wearable devices

May 2, 2023

Humane, a firm created by former Apple workers Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, has launched a wearable device with AI-powered capabilities that works as a personal assistant.

Chaudhri, Humane’s chairman and president, exhibited the gadget on stage at a TED Talk, touching it to activate voice commands and giving requests similar to those made with an Amazon Echo smart speaker. The gadget is intended to be used independently, without the requirement for a smartphone or other linked device.

The system projected a screen onto surrounding surfaces and responded to voice and gesture instructions throughout the presentation. In addition to offering spoken replies, the gadget contains a camera that can recognize items in its surroundings. Chaudhri showed the device’s capacity to translate sentences from English to French by saying a statement, which the wearable then read aloud in French.

Chaudhri also displayed the device’s capacity to provide summaries of missed emails, calendar invites, and messages, however it is unclear where the information comes from because it is not coupled with a smartphone.

The gadget is set to be introduced on April 22nd, but pricing and availability have yet to be disclosed.
