Generative AI job postings soar 20% in U.S.

June 23, 2023

The demand for generative AI jobs is surging in the United States, according to data from job portal Indeed. In May 2023, job postings for generative AI roles jumped 20% from the previous month. This is more than double the level of job postings for generative AI roles in previous years.

According to Indeed, the number of AI-related job posts in May alone reached 204 per million, exceeding prior years’ estimates. The l success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which has created broad interest in the revolutionary possibilities of generative AI, is the driving reason behind this rise.

In the AI employment market, data scientist positions accounted for 5% of all listings on Indeed’s US platform. Jobs like software engineer, machine learning engineer, and data engineer were also in great demand. While firms like as Meta, Apple, TikTok, Pinterest, and Amazon helped to fill these sought-after positions.

Commenting on the notable rise in job seeker interest since the advent of ChatGPT, Nick Bunker, the Director of Economic Research at Indeed, stated, “There has been a notable increase in job seeker interest in AI-related jobs, especially since the introduction of ChatGPT.”

However, the surge in demand for generative AI jobs is not being met adequately by the available supply of workers. Indeed’s data reveals that searches for generative AI jobs surged to 147 per million total jobs searched in May 2023. This suggests a significant shortage of workers equipped with the necessary skills to thrive in this field.
