TELUS is high on TIME magazines list of world-wide sustainable companies

June 28, 2024 TELUS has been honored by TIME Magazine and Statista in the inaugural list of the World’s Most Sustainable Companies, ranking 21st out of 500 global companies. The recognition also places TELUS as the second most sustainable company in Canada and the top Canadian telecommunications company for sustainability.

The accolades reflect TELUS’ long-standing commitment to corporate citizenship, innovation management, and environmental and social reporting. TIME Magazine’s selection process involved a rigorous analysis of over 20 key performance indicators, such as emissions, energy intensity, and sustainability disclosures assessed by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). TELUS achieved an exceptional “A- leadership” ranking for its operations.

Darren Entwistle, President and CEO of TELUS, emphasized the company’s dedication to sustainability and social capitalism. “Our team’s commitment to sustainability is foundational to our leadership in social capitalism. Earning recognition as the top-ranking Canadian communications company by TIME Magazine reinforces our dedication to not only eliminating our carbon footprint but also improving the health of the planet our children will inherit,” he stated.

TELUS has set ambitious targets to become carbon neutral by 2030 or sooner, implementing various sustainable practices:

– Planting 12.7 million trees since 2000 for reforestation and nature restoration.
– Diverting 15 million devices from landfills and recycling four million mobile devices since 2010.
– Securing four virtual Power Purchase Agreements in Alberta for wind and solar energy, aiming to source 100% of electricity from renewable or low-emitting sources by 2025.
– Investing in socially responsible startups like Flash Forest and veritree for environmental restoration.
– Issuing Canada’s first Sustainability-Linked Bond, raising $3.7 billion CAD and $900 million USD to reduce GHG emissions.
– Launching TELUS Environmental Solutions to provide tech-enabled nature-based solutions.
– Utilizing technology to enhance sustainability in agriculture, consumer goods, and healthcare sectors.

TELUS’ initiatives highlight its role in driving social change and enabling positive environmental impacts. The company’s efforts in digital health technologies, reforestation, renewable energy, and responsible tech investments are central to its sustainability strategy.
