March 13, 2026 Google is rolling out a new set of Gemini-powered features across Docs, Sheets, Slides and Drive designed to generate documents, spreadsheets and presentations using information from a user’s Gmail, Chat and stored files. The tools aim to let users create and manage work directly inside Google Workspace instead of switching to separate AI apps or chatbots.
The update introduces a new “Help me create” capability in Docs that can generate a fully formatted first draft based on instructions and existing content in a user’s account. For example, Gemini can assemble a newsletter using meeting notes stored in Drive and upcoming events listed in email messages.
Once a draft is created, users can refine individual sections without regenerating the entire document. A “Match writing style” feature can also suggest edits to unify tone across documents written by multiple collaborators, while a “Match the format” option mirrors the structure of an existing document template.
Sheets is also gaining deeper AI integration. With a single prompt, Gemini can pull information from Gmail, Chat and Drive to generate structured spreadsheets such as planning checklists, contact lists or trackers.
A separate “Fill with Gemini” feature can populate tables automatically, generate text, summarize data or retrieve relevant information from Google Search. The system can also gather details such as deadlines, pricing or other public data points and insert them directly into a spreadsheet.
Slides will receive similar capabilities. Gemini can generate editable slides that match the design and theme of an existing presentation and populate them with information drawn from documents, emails and web sources. Google says future updates will allow users to generate entire presentations from a single prompt.
Drive is also being repositioned as an active research tool rather than simply a file repository. Natural-language searches in Drive will now return an “AI Overview” summarizing relevant content across documents, while a new “Ask Gemini in Drive” feature allows users to query information across files, email, calendar entries and web data.
The new capabilities are currently rolling out in beta and will initially be available to Google AI Ultra and Pro subscribers. Docs, Sheets and Slides features are launching globally in English, while the new Drive tools are initially available in the United States.
