ChatGPT now lets Pro users connect bank and investment accounts

May 19, 2026 OpenAI has launched a new set of personal finance tools in preview for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States, allowing users to connect financial accounts and ask ChatGPT questions about spending, portfolios, subscriptions and long-term planning. The feature is powered through a partnership with Plaid, giving users the ability to connect accounts from more than 12,000 financial institutions.

The new finance experience can be accessed from the “Finances” option in ChatGPT’s sidebar or by typing “@Finances, connect my accounts” in a conversation. Once connected, users can view a dashboard covering portfolio performance, spending patterns, subscriptions and upcoming payments.

Supported institutions include Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express and Capital One. OpenAI said it also plans to add Intuit support, which could allow users to ask more complex questions about taxes, stock sales and credit card approval scenarios.

The launch comes one month after OpenAI acquired the team behind Hiro, a personal finance startup backed by Ribbit, General Catalyst and Restive. OpenAI said the Hiro team’s finance expertise helped with the new product, though it did not say whether the entire feature was built by that team.

OpenAI said more than 200 million users already ask financial questions in ChatGPT every month. The company said its GPT-5.5 model is better at reasoning with context, which it described as important for personal finance tasks.

The tool is designed to answer questions such as whether a user’s spending has changed recently or how they could prepare to buy a home in their area within five years. The goal is to move ChatGPT from general financial advice toward answers based on a user’s actual accounts and financial activity.

OpenAI said it worked with finance experts to create a benchmark to improve how the model handles personal finance questions.

The company is also adding controls for financial data. Users can remove account connections through Settings, Apps and Finances. Once a service is disconnected, synced data will be removed from ChatGPT within 30 days. Users can also view and delete financial memories from the Finances page.
