Microsoft Teams To Add End-to-end Encryption Next Month

June 4, 2021

To strengthen its security and privacy, Microsoft Teams will add an end-to-end voice encryption feature so that users’ discussions can remain completely private.

Although the platform already encrypts data at rest and transit, it provides administrators with space to configure automatic recording and transcription of voice calls, making Microsoft Teams calls unsuitable for sharing sensitive information that should remain private between two people.

Microsoft gave clarity on the update on Monday, and said: “Teams will support an option to use end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for ad hoc 1:1 Teams VoIP calls, providing an additional option for conducting sensitive online conversations.”
