Deloitte predicts edge computing market growth

December 13, 2022

Deloitte, one of the Big Four accounting firms and one of the world’s largest professional services networks by revenue and number of professionals, has predicted a crowded playing field for edge computing, predicting a 22% growth in enterprise market in 2023, compared to a 6% growth in overall enterprise IT in the same time period.

Instead of servers being located in a central data center and all data being pushed out from there, edge computing may distribute compute power to end-user devices, cell towers, or smaller, regional hubs to reduce latency.

Cloud, telco, equipment, and platform providers are competing for a piece of enterprise investments in edge services and products that make computing faster, safer, and less expensive.

According to Deloitte, the enterprise market for edge computing will grow by 22% in 2023, compared to 4% growth in enterprise networking equipment spending and 6% growth in overall enterprise IT spending in the same year. The majority of this growth will most likely come from hardware expenditures at first, but will shift to software and services as the market matures.
