Fortinet, a provider of cybersecurity solutions, conducted a study titled Work-from-Anywhere. A global study highlighting the trend of people working from anywhere found that two-thirds of organizations had breaches caused by remote working.
The study surveyed 570 businesses and discovered that 60% still allow employees to work from home, while 55% are embracing a hybrid work strategy. It emphasizes the insecurity of home and remote networks, which is regarded as the top WFA security risk by most organizations.
It is mentioned as a major issue, owing to the inability to extend corporate security to a non-corporate environment. Employees using company laptops for personal reasons, employees failing to follow security protocols when not in the office, and unknown users sharing the home network are all risks.
The difficulty of securing decentralized working environments is exacerbated by organizations’ lack of visibility into users’ home environments, branch offices, and off-site locations. This creates uncertainty about asset ownership, and it can be difficult to enforce zero trust access controls and deploy patches to devices.
Although the report found that most organizations have not mitigated the risks of remote working, it did show that CISOs and security leaders are investing in new technologies to increase their cyber resilience.
