June 16, 2026 France’s domestic intelligence service is ending its long-standing relationship with U.S. surveillance technology company Palantir. The General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) has selected French technology firm ChapsVision to replace Palantir, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced in a video released ahead of the VivaTech conference.
The DGSI has worked with Palantir since 2016 and renewed its contract with the company in December 2025. That agreement was scheduled to remain in effect until 2028.
The decision comes as European governments increasingly seek to reduce dependence on American technology providers across critical sectors, including cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence, social media platforms and public-sector software services. Palantir has faced criticism in Europe because of its close ties to the U.S. administration.
ChapsVision is not new to France’s security ecosystem. The company has been involved since 2022 in a partnership supporting intelligence agencies, customs services and law enforcement organizations.
The move also follows a similar decision in Germany. Last month, German intelligence services selected ChapsVision instead of Palantir for data-analysis work, further strengthening the French company’s position in the European security technology market.
Palantir, however, said its existing agreement with France remains active.
In a statement, the company said its contract with the DGSI “remains fully in force” and that cooperation with French authorities continues under current contractual commitments. Palantir added that it remains committed to maintaining high standards of security, data protection, regulatory compliance and transparency.
The company also said it shares the French government’s goal of strengthening national and European technological capabilities.
The decision marks another example of European governments favoring domestic technology providers for sensitive intelligence and security operations as the region seeks greater control over critical digital infrastructure.
