Government IT spending set to reach $589.8 billion in 2023

According to Gartner, government IT spending will reach $589.8 billion in 2023, a 7.6% rise over the previous year.

Government Chief Information Officers (CIOs) have problems in providing effective services and dealing with shortage in skills. Despite these obstacles, government agencies intend to engage in digital projects, with an emphasis on application modernization and long-term effect measurement.

Software is the most expensive category, with software-as-a-service and low-code application platforms becoming more popular. Government IT investment will continue, with some companies using a multisourced workforce approach and creating agreements with external IT service providers.

Expenditure on Data Center Systems is expected to rise by 3.3% to $26,623 million, while expenditure on Devices will fall by 4.6% to $32,643 million. Internal Services spending will increase by 3.3% to $69,178 million, while IT Services will increase by 8.9% to $209,103 million. Software spending will rise 13.5% to $183,733 million.

Spending on Telecom Services will rise by 1.4% to $68,514 million. Overall, government IT spending is expected to reach $589,794 million in 2023, representing a 7.6% increase over the previous year.
