London Bans Bitcoin Ad For Misleading Information

May 27, 2021

An advert poster plastered over London’s public transport by cryptocurrency exchange platform Luno, has been banned.

According to The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the advert, which read “If you’re seeing Bitcoin on the underground, it’s time to buy,” was misleading and omitted key risk warnings.

While ASA rules state that advertising must be clear about the value of investments, the agency revealed that the simplicity of Luno’s “it’s time to buy” advert statement “gave the impression that Bitcoin investment was straightforward and accessible.”

The agency concluded that the ad irresponsibly gave the impression that Luno’s involvement in bitcoin investments was simple and straightforward.
