Security and performance improvements dominates Android 14

April 20, 2023

Android users can expect improvements throughout the year via individual app updates on the new Android 14. J.R. Raphael, a Tech Writer for ComputerWorld highlights several new features, including end-to-end encryption for group conversations of up to 100 people.

Additionally, users can now respond to any message with any emoji. Gmail also has a new package tracking system, while Google Keep offers a new single-note widget and the ability to display several notes side by side on tablets and foldable devices.

Other enhancements include the upgrading of Google Chrome, with a setting to preserve private incognito tabs, and an under-the-hood update that makes it 30% quicker on some Android devices. Users can now mark up any PDF file with sketching and highlighting directly from their phones.

Furthermore, Android 14 comes with a new built-in VPN and dark web privacy breach monitoring service on Google One. There is also an expansion of the Magic Eraser function to all Pixel phones and Google One customers, and the option to record custom alarm sounds on the default Android Clock app.

The new operating system also features cross-platform Health Connect, enabling the exchange of health and fitness data between different apps and devices. Cross-device timer monitoring is available on all Pixel devices, and Google’s Direct My Call technology is now available on the Pixel 4a and Pixel 5a mid-range phones.
